The best AI tools for solo founders are the ones that each take one job off your plate. For most people that means one paid assistant with an agentic coding tool (Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus, both $20 a month billed monthly), plus free tiers for research (Perplexity or Gemini), meetings (Granola), design (Figma), automation (n8n or Zapier), support (Crisp) and analytics (PostHog). Prices below come from each vendor's own pricing page, checked 1 Nov 2026, and each pick carries the limit you will hit first.

## TL;DR

- **Build:** [Claude Pro](https://claude.com/pricing) includes Claude Code; [ChatGPT Plus](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/pricing) includes Codex. Start with one.
- **Code editor:** [Cursor](https://cursor.com/pricing) now belongs to SpaceX, and its cheapest paid plan only runs Grok models.
- **No-code app:** [Lovable](https://docs.lovable.dev/introduction/subscription-plans.md) or [Bolt](https://bolt.new/pricing), both $25 a month for Pro.
- **Research:** [Perplexity](https://www.perplexity.ai/enterprise/pricing) for cited answers, [Gemini](https://gemini.google/us/subscriptions/?hl=en) if you live in Google.
- **Support:** [Crisp](https://crisp.chat/en/pricing/) for a flat workspace price, [Intercom Fin](https://www.intercom.com/pricing) to pay per resolved conversation.
- **Budget:** $20 a month covers most early work; about $96 adds an app builder, paid research, meeting history and automation.

## Build: general assistants with coding agents

### 1. Claude (Pro, with Claude Code)

**Job:** writing, planning and building in one subscription. Claude's pricing page lists Pro at $20 billed monthly or $17 a month with the $200 annual payment, and shows Claude Code as included in Pro, Max and Ultra but not in Free ([Claude pricing](https://claude.com/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Free tier:** "Limited usage" every 5 hours and every week, Sonnet and Haiku models, up to 5 projects.
- **Upgrade path:** Max is $100 a month for 5x Pro usage and includes $100 a month in API credits; Ultra is $200 a month.
- **Honest limit:** usage is metered in 5-hour and weekly windows that depend on model, chat length and file size, so long Claude Code sessions use Pro allowance quickly.

If you are wiring a model into your own product rather than chatting with it, the subscription is the wrong lens; read [how to choose an LLM API](https://zeroraised.com/blog/how-to-choose-an-llm-api) instead.

### 2. ChatGPT (Plus, with Codex)

**Job:** the same all-rounder role, with OpenAI's models. OpenAI's Codex pricing page says Codex is included in Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise plans. Go is $8 a month for "lightweight coding tasks"; Plus is $20 a month and adds Codex on the web, CLI, IDE extension and iOS; Pro plans are $100, $200 or $500 a month ([Codex pricing](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Free tier:** includes Codex access, with tighter limits than paid plans.
- **Honest limit:** usage caps differ by plan, and Go is aimed at light work. The chatgpt.com pricing page returned an access error when we checked, so these figures come from the Codex pricing page.

Claude and ChatGPT overlap almost completely for a solo founder. Try both free tiers on a real task and pay for the one that needs fewer corrections, then read [how to review AI-generated code](https://zeroraised.com/blog/how-to-review-ai-generated-code) before merging agent output.

### 3. Cursor

**Job:** an AI code editor for founders who want to stay in an IDE. Cursor announced on 14 Aug 2026 that it "has officially been acquired by SpaceX" ([Cursor blog](https://cursor.com/blog/joining-spacex)). Its docs now say Cursor is sold as part of The X Subscription, one subscription for Grok, Cursor and X ([Cursor docs](https://cursor.com/docs/account/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Plans:** Free $0, Plus $8 a month, Premium $30 a month, Super $100 a month, Ultra $200 a month. Annual billing is $80, $300, $1,000 and $2,000 a year ([Cursor pricing](https://cursor.com/pricing)).
- **Honest limit:** the pricing page says only Grok models are available on Plus, and third-party models are billed separately at API list price. The old Pro and Pro+ plans are listed as legacy. If you want Claude or OpenAI models inside Cursor, budget for usage on top.

## Build: no-code app builders

### 4. Lovable (or Bolt)

**Job:** turning a prompt into a working web app when you do not write code. Lovable's free plan grants 5 build credits per day, up to 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits a month ([Lovable credits](https://docs.lovable.dev/introduction/plans-and-credits)). Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits ($250 a year), and Business is $50 a month ([Lovable plans](https://docs.lovable.dev/introduction/subscription-plans.md), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** credits are spent per message (Lovable's examples run from 0.50 to 1.70 credits), so a long debugging session can drain a month's allowance.
- **Alternative:** Bolt Free includes 1M tokens a month with a cap of 300K tokens per day; Bolt Pro is $25 a month billed monthly with 10M tokens and rollover ([Bolt pricing](https://bolt.new/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026).

Before you share the result with customers, work through the [vibe-coded app security checklist](https://zeroraised.com/blog/vibe-coded-app-security-checklist) and the steps in [how to launch a vibe-coded app](https://zeroraised.com/blog/how-to-launch-a-vibe-coded-app).

## Research

### 5. Perplexity

**Job:** fast, cited answers for market and competitor research. Perplexity's help centre says Free gives "practically unlimited basic searches" but only 3 Pro Searches per day and 1 research query a month ([Perplexity plans](https://www.perplexity.ai/help-center/en/articles/11187416-which-perplexity-subscription-plan-is-right-for-you)). Its pricing page lists the next plan at $17 a month billed annually ([Perplexity pricing](https://www.perplexity.ai/enterprise/pricing)), and Max costs $200 a month or $2,000 a year ([Perplexity Max](https://www.perplexity.ai/help-center/en/articles/11680686-perplexity-max), all checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** the monthly-billing price for Pro was not shown on the pages we checked. Citations still need clicking; a cited answer is a lead, not a fact.

### 6. Gemini (Google AI Pro)

**Job:** research and drafting if your email, documents and files already sit in Google. The free tier includes Deep Research, Canvas and 15 GB of storage. Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month, AI Pro is $19.99 a month with 4x Free usage and 5 TB of storage, and AI Ultra starts at $99.99 a month ([Google AI plans](https://gemini.google/us/subscriptions/?hl=en), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** limits are compute-based and refresh every 5 hours until you reach a weekly cap. Prices shown are the US page; the UK page lists AI Pro at £18.99.

## Content: video and podcasts

### 7. Descript

**Job:** editing demo videos, podcasts and launch clips by editing a transcript. Free includes 1 media hour a month and 100 one-time AI credits. Hobbyist is listed at $16 and $24 per person per month, Creator at $24 and $35, with an annual toggle advertising savings of up to 35% ([Descript pricing](https://www.descript.com/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026). The lower figure appears to be the annual rate; the page did not label it in our check.

- **Honest limit:** media hours (10 a month on Hobbyist) cap you before AI credits do if you record long sessions. For quick screen recordings, [Screen Studio](https://zeroraised.com/p/screen-studio) is a bootstrapped option in the ZeroRaised directory.

## Support

### 8. Crisp (or Intercom Fin)

**Job:** a shared inbox and AI agent that answers repeat questions. [Crisp](https://zeroraised.com/p/crisp) has a ZeroRaised profile and charges per workspace, not per seat. Free gives 2 seats and no AI credits. Mini is $45 a month with 4 seats and $5 of AI credits (about 90 automated conversations); Essentials is $95 with $25 of credits (about 450 conversations) ([Crisp pricing](https://crisp.chat/en/pricing/), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** AI credits, not seats, are the constraint. A launch spike can use the Mini allowance quickly.
- **Alternative:** Intercom prices its Fin AI agent at $0.99 per outcome, and Fin can run on your existing helpdesk with a minimum monthly commitment (the page gives 50 outcomes as an example) ([Intercom pricing](https://www.intercom.com/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026). Per-outcome pricing suits low, uneven volume.

## Design

### 9. Figma

**Job:** UI design, prototypes and AI-generated layouts through Figma Make. The free Starter plan includes 150 AI credits per day, up to 500 a month, and unlimited drafts. A Professional Full seat is listed at $16 a month (the billing period was not labelled in our check) with 3,000 AI credits a month and includes Figma Make ([Figma pricing](https://www.figma.com/pricing/), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** Figma says credits used vary by request and included credits are subject to change. The Starter MCP server allows 20 tool calls a month, which is too few for regular design-to-code work.

## Automation

### 10. n8n (or Zapier)

**Job:** connecting your tools and running AI steps without writing a backend. n8n says a standard self-hosted version is available on GitHub, and on self-hosted installs its AI Assistant uses your own key with no credit limits. Cloud Starter is 20 EUR a month billed annually for 2,500 workflow executions; there is no free cloud tier, only a trial ([n8n pricing](https://n8n.io/pricing/), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** self-hosting means you own updates, backups and uptime.
- **Alternative:** Zapier Free gives 100 tasks a month with two-step Zaps. Professional starts at $19.99 a month billed annually or $29.99 monthly for 750 tasks ([Zapier pricing](https://zapier.com/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026). Overage on monthly plans costs 2.5x the base rate.

Not every automation needs an agent; [AI agent vs AI workflow](https://zeroraised.com/blog/ai-agent-vs-ai-workflow) explains when a fixed workflow is cheaper and safer, and [how to add human approval to AI agents](https://zeroraised.com/blog/how-to-add-human-approval-to-ai-agents) covers the guard rails.

## Meetings and sales calls

### 11. Granola

**Job:** notes from customer interviews and sales calls without a bot joining the call. Basic is $0 with 30 days of meeting history. Business is $14 per user per month with unlimited history and integrations including Attio, Notion, HubSpot and Zapier ([Granola pricing](https://www.granola.ai/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** Basic keeps only 30 days of history, and the interview notes you need when setting prices are usually older than that.

## Analytics

### 12. PostHog

**Job:** product analytics, session replay, feature flags and surveys in one place, with an AI assistant on top. Each month PostHog's free allowance covers the first 1,000,000 analytics events, 5,000 session recordings, 1,000,000 feature flag requests, 1,500 survey responses and 500 PostHog AI credits, with a $0 base price ([PostHog pricing](https://posthog.com/pricing), checked 1 Nov 2026).

- **Honest limit:** above the free allowance billing is per unit ($0.00005 per event), so set a billing limit before a launch. If you only need privacy-friendly traffic stats, [Plausible](https://zeroraised.com/p/plausible), [Simple Analytics](https://zeroraised.com/p/simple-analytics) and [Pirsch](https://zeroraised.com/p/pirsch) are bootstrapped options in the ZeroRaised directory.

## Solo founder AI stack: $20 and $100 a month

### The $20 a month starter stack

| Job | Tool and plan | Monthly cost |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Build, write, code | Claude Pro (monthly) or ChatGPT Plus | $20 |
| Research | Perplexity Free or Gemini Free | $0 |
| Meetings | Granola Basic | $0 |
| Design | Figma Starter | $0 |
| Automation | Zapier Free or self-hosted n8n | $0 |
| Support | Crisp Free (no AI credits) | $0 |
| Analytics | PostHog free allowance | $0 |
| **Total** | | **$20** |

### The $100 a month stack

| Job | Tool and plan | Monthly cost |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Build, write, code | Claude Pro (monthly) | $20 |
| App builder | Lovable Pro (monthly, 100 credits) | $25 |
| Research | Perplexity Pro (billed annually) | $17 |
| Meetings | Granola Business | $14 |
| Automation | Zapier Professional, 750 tasks (billed annually) | $19.99 |
| Design and analytics | Figma Starter, PostHog free allowance | $0 |
| **Total** | | **$95.99** |

Swap Lovable for Cursor Premium ($30) if you write code, or Perplexity and Zapier for Crisp Mini ($45) once support volume grows. Annual rows need the year paid up front.

## How to choose AI tools as a solo founder

1. **List jobs, not tools.** Write down the five tasks that took the most hours last month, and only pay for a tool that removes one.
2. **Pay for one assistant first.** Add a second paid tool only when the first one's limits block real work.
3. **Find the meter.** Every pick meters something: 5-hour windows, credits, tasks, executions or recordings. [How to reduce LLM costs](https://zeroraised.com/blog/how-to-reduce-llm-costs) applies the same logic to API spend.
4. **Prefer monthly billing until a tool sticks.** Annual discounts are real (Claude Pro drops from $20 to $17), but pricing and ownership change fast, as Cursor's move to SpaceX showed.
5. **Check where your data goes.** Read retention and training settings before pasting customer data into any tool.

For the non-AI parts of launching, see the free [ZeroRaised tools](https://zeroraised.com/tools).

## Where ZeroRaised fits

ZeroRaised is a free launch directory for bootstrapped products. A product is ineligible if it has ever received institutional venture capital or accelerator equity, as set out in the [funding policy](https://zeroraised.com/about#funding-policy). If you build with any of the tools above and never raised, you can [submit your product](https://zeroraised.com/submit), and the [launch sites guide](https://zeroraised.com/launch-sites) lists other places to post it.
