Typeform Alternatives for Indie Makers (2026): Free and Cheap

Typeform's paid plans start at $39/mo (or $28/mo billed yearly) for 100 responses a month, and removing its branding takes the $79/mo Plus plan. Tally's free plan gives unlimited forms and submissions under fair use, and Fillout's free plan includes 1,000 responses a month. For most indie makers, one of those two replaces Typeform for $0.

Short answer: Start with Tally. Its free plan has unlimited forms and submissions under fair use, with conditional logic included, and Pro (from $24/mo billed yearly) removes the branding. If you want a hard response number or unlimited free seats for a team, pick Fillout (1,000 free responses a month). If you need to own the data on your own server, self-host HeyForm or Formbricks.

Prices and limits come from each vendor's own pages, checked on 7 Nov 2026. Opinions are marked as ours.

TL;DR#

  • Typeform is the expensive baseline. Basic is $39/mo, or $28/mo billed yearly, for 100 responses a month. Branding removal starts on Plus at $79/mo (Typeform pricing).
  • Tally is the default free pick. Unlimited forms and submissions on the free plan, "as long as you stay within our fair usage guidelines" (Tally pricing).
  • Fillout is the free pick with a fixed number: 1,000 responses a month free, unlimited seats (Fillout pricing).
  • Youform and HeyForm are the cheap paid picks. Youform Pro is $20/mo billed yearly; HeyForm Basic is $15/mo for 5k responses.
  • Self-host: HeyForm (AGPL-3.0), Formbricks Community Edition (AGPLv3), Typebot (FSL).

What indie makers actually use forms for#

Most solo founders need forms for five jobs: a waitlist before launch (see how to build a waitlist before launch), an onboarding survey, a churn survey at cancellation, a customer interview screener (the questions are in how to run customer discovery interviews) and an NPS pulse. None needs hundreds of responses a month at the start, and most need basic conditional logic. That is why the free tiers below go further than you might expect.

The baseline: what Typeform costs today#

Typeform's pricing page shows these plan cards (Typeform pricing):

Typeform planMonthly billingBilled yearlyResponses/month (base)Users
Basic$39/mo$28/mo1001
Plus$79/mo$56/mo1,0003
Business$129/mo$91/mo10,0005

The page also lists a "maximum monthly limit" above each base (750 on Basic, 2,500 on Plus, 50,000 on Business). Conditional logic appears on the Basic card, and "Remove Typeform branding" first appears on Plus. A link to a free plan is shown, but the pricing page did not print its response limit when we checked, so we have left it out.

One caution: the "Compare all plans" table on the same page showed lower figures than the cards (for example $29 and $25 for Basic). We quote the cards; confirm at checkout.

Our read: paying $56 to $79 a month just to drop the logo on a waitlist form is hard to justify before revenue.

The alternatives, one by one#

Tally: the free default#

Tally's free plan includes "Unlimited forms", "Unlimited submissions" and "Conditional logic & calculations", and its FAQ says logic is free "without time restrictions" (Tally pricing). The catch is fair use. Tally's fair use policy gives "Consistently collecting high volumes of submissions 50 000 / month" as an example of extensive use, and says that if usage puts pressure on its infrastructure it will contact you about a custom plan.

Pro is $24/mo with yearly billing, which Tally says gives two months off and removes Tally branding, adds unlimited team members and lifts the 10 MB per-file upload limit. Business is $74/mo.

Our read: Tally free covers a waitlist, screener or churn survey for a long time. Pay for Pro when the badge looks out of place on a paid product.

Fillout: a free tier with a real number#

Fillout's free plan is "Free forever" with 1,000 responses a month, conditional logic and unlimited seats; the page says "No per-seat charges" (Fillout pricing). Billed annually, Starter is $15/mo for 2,000 responses with light branding, Pro $40/mo for 5,000 with all branding removed, and Business $75/mo for unlimited.

Our read: pick Fillout if you prefer a hard quota to a fair use clause, or if a contractor needs access without paying per seat.

Youform: the cheapest branding-free option we found#

Youform's free plan includes "Unlimited forms and responses" under fair use, conditional logic and one user (Youform pricing). Pro is $29/mo or $20/mo billed yearly at $240, removes Youform branding and allows up to 3 team members. Business is $89/mo, or $60/mo billed yearly.

HeyForm: cheap cloud, free to self-host#

HeyForm has no free cloud plan, but "HeyForm is free to self-host" and the repository is licensed AGPL-3.0 (HeyForm pricing, HeyForm on GitHub). Cloud plans include conditional logic on every tier and a 7-day free trial. Basic is $15/mo for 5k responses a month with HeyForm branding; Premium is $24/mo ($288 billed yearly) for 20k responses with branding removed; Business is $40/mo for 150k.

Formbricks: surveys you own#

Formbricks is a survey and feedback platform rather than a pure form builder. Its Community Edition is "Free to use, forever" under an "AGPLv3 license", with "Surveys on every channel" running on your own servers (Formbricks pricing). The README says some advanced functionality ships in the Docker images but needs an Enterprise License Key (Formbricks on GitHub). Paid plans are quoted: "We don't publish a price list."

Our read: worth it if you already run servers and want survey data in your own database, overkill for a waitlist.

Jotform: the kitchen sink#

Jotform's free Starter plan allows 5 active forms and 100 submissions a month, with Jotform branding (Jotform pricing). Bronze is $39/mo, or $34/mo billed yearly, for 1,000 submissions with branding removable; Silver is $49/mo ($39/mo yearly) for 2,500. Plans up to Gold are single-user.

Google Forms: free and plain#

Google Forms supports "Go to section based on answer", which "is only available for Multiple choice and Dropdown question types" (Google Forms help). Forms is in every Workspace plan, from £5.90 per user per month on Google's UK pricing page (Google Workspace pricing).

Our read: fine for a screener you send by link, but it looks like Google, not your product.

Paperform: unlimited seats, small free tier#

Paperform's free plan is "Free forever" with 30 submissions a month and a badge that "cannot be turned off". Pro is $49/mo billed annually "versus $59 month-to-month", with unlimited submissions under fair use, branding removed and a 7-day free trial (Paperform pricing). Seats and conditional logic are on every plan.

Typebot: chat-style forms#

Typebot builds conversational, chat-like flows. The free plan includes 200 chats a month; Starter is $39/mo for 2,000 chats, 2 seats and no branding, with extra chats at $10 per 500. It is billed monthly only (Typebot pricing). The code is under the Functional Source License (FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0), which converts each release to Apache 2.0 after two years (Typebot on GitHub).

Worked cost example: 300 and 2,000 responses a month#

This is illustrative arithmetic on the published prices above, not data. We assume you want branding removed and pay yearly where the vendor offers it.

At 300 responses a month:

ToolPlan neededApproximate cost per year
TypeformPlus (Basic's base is 100)$56 x 12 = $672
TallyPro, yearly$24 x 12 = about $288
YouformPro, yearly$240
HeyFormPremium, yearly$288
JotformBronze, yearly$408
FilloutPro, annual$480
TypebotStarter, monthly only$39 x 12 = $468
PaperformPro, annual$49 x 12 = $588

If you can live with a badge, Tally, Youform, Fillout and Google Forms all cost $0 at this volume.

At 2,000 responses a month: Tally and Youform (both fair use) do not change: $0 with branding, about $240 (Youform) or $288 (Tally) a year without. Fillout Starter covers 2,000 with light branding for $180 a year; Pro stays $480. HeyForm Premium stays $288. Jotform moves to Silver, $468 a year. Typeform's Plus base is 1,000, so you would go above the base (Plus lists a 2,500 maximum; we did not find the extra cost) or move to Business at $91/mo yearly, about $1,092.

Our read: at these volumes the gap between Typeform and the cheapest alternatives is roughly $400 to $850 a year, a meaningful share of an early tool budget. Our SaaS tech stack for solo founders shows where forms sit next to everything else you pay for.

Our read: the verdict#

  • Most indie makers: Tally free now, Tally Pro when you have paying customers.
  • You want a fixed quota or free seats for a team: Fillout.
  • Cheapest no-branding plan: Youform Pro.
  • You want the data on your own server: HeyForm for forms, Formbricks for surveys.
  • Stay on Typeform only if its look is part of your brand and $56 a month is small relative to revenue.

Our read: switching is cheap. Rebuild one form, repoint the link and download old responses before you cancel.

Frequently asked questions#

What is the best free Typeform alternative?#

For most indie makers, Tally. Its pricing page says it gives you unlimited forms and submissions free as long as you stay within its fair usage guidelines, and conditional logic is included on the free plan. If you want a hard number instead of fair use, Fillout's free plan includes 1,000 responses a month.

Does Typeform have a free plan?#

Typeform's pricing page links to a free plan, but the page did not state its response limit when we checked on 7 Nov 2026. The cheapest paid plan, Basic, is $39/mo or $28/mo billed yearly and includes 100 responses a month. Check the free plan's current limit in Typeform's help centre before you rely on it.

Which Typeform alternative can I self-host?#

HeyForm is open source under AGPL-3.0 and says it is free to self-host. Formbricks Community Edition is free under AGPLv3, with some advanced features behind an Enterprise licence key. Typebot, a chat-style form builder, is source-available under the Functional Source License (FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0).

What is the cheapest way to remove form branding?#

On published prices, Youform Pro at $20/mo billed yearly ($240) and Tally Pro at $24/mo on yearly billing are the cheapest branding-free options we found. HeyForm Premium is $24/mo or $288 billed yearly. Typeform requires Plus at $79/mo, or $56/mo billed yearly.

Is Google Forms good enough for a SaaS?#

For internal surveys and quick screeners, often yes. It supports going to a section based on an answer for multiple choice and dropdown questions. It looks like Google Forms, though, so for a waitlist or onboarding form on your own brand, Tally or Fillout usually fit better.
