What the Apple App Store is#
The App Store is where people discover and download apps and games. Apple reviews submissions, including apps, app updates, In-App Purchases and App Store metadata, to confirm they are safe, secure and reliable (submitting guide).
Who it suits#
Its audience is people downloading apps on Apple platforms, so it fits makers shipping an app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch or Apple Vision Pro (membership details). You can enroll as an individual or sole proprietor, or as an organization. Our guide to App Store screenshots for launch covers the product page.
How to submit#
- Set up an Apple Account with two-factor authentication turned on, using your legal first and last name. An alias, nickname or company name delays approval (enrollment).
- Enroll in the Apple Developer Program as an individual or an organization. Organizations need to be a legal entity and have a D-U-N-S Number (except government entities), a work email on the organization's domain and a public, working website (enrollment).
- Once Apple verifies your details, agree to the Apple Developer Program License Agreement and complete your membership purchase (enrollment).
- In App Store Connect, prepare your product page: name, icon, description, screenshots and keywords. Answer the age rating questionnaire and enter your privacy practices (submitting guide).
- Add account details or special instructions in the App Review Information section, then submit for review. Apple emails you about status changes (App Review).
Cost, link type and review time#
- Cost: Paid. The Apple Developer Program is 99 USD per membership year, or local currency where available (membership details).
- Link type: nofollow. On a sampled listing checked 2026-10-19, the Developer Website link carried rel=nofollow, along with noopener and noreferrer.
- Review time: Apple says 90% of submissions are reviewed in under 48 hours (App Review, checked 19 Oct 2026).
The catch#
The fee is not a one-off. Membership is priced per year, and Apple also takes a commission on digital goods and services sold through the App Store: 30%, or 15% if you are enrolled in a program such as the App Store Small Business Program, and 15% for qualifying subscriptions (membership details).
