What the Chrome Web Store is#
The Chrome Web Store is Google's store for Chrome browser extensions and themes. Developers publish through a developer dashboard, and every submission goes through a review before it can appear in the store.
Who it suits#
Its audience is Chrome users looking for browser extensions and themes, so it is the default home for anyone shipping an extension. Our guide on how to launch a Chrome extension covers what to do around the listing itself.
How to submit#
- Choose a developer email. Google suggests a new address used only for publishing, and you cannot change it after the account is created.
- Check that your country or region is on the supported list.
- Open the developer dashboard, agree to the developer agreement and policies, then pay the one-time registration fee.
- Submit your extension for review.
- If no policy violations are found, the submission is approved and can be published. If one is found, it is rejected and you are told why by email.
Cost, link type and review time#
- Cost: Paid. You must pay a one-time registration fee before publishing (registration docs). Exact amount: Not confirmed, as the cited page does not state it.
- Link type: nofollow+ugc. On a sampled listing checked on 2026-10-18, the Website link carries both rel=ugc and rel=nofollow.
- Review time: Most extensions are reviewed within a few days, but review can take up to a few weeks (review process).
The catch#
Google says some signals can make a reviewer look more closely and slow things down, including new developers, new extensions, dangerous permission requests and significant code changes. Broad host permissions and large or hard to read code also add time. A first extension from a new account can tick several of those boxes, so plan for the longer end of the range. Google asks developers to contact support if a review is pending for more than three weeks. More places to list are on our launch sites page.
