What Product Hunt is#
Product Hunt is a community site where makers share things they have built by "hunting" them, and other members upvote, comment on and share those products. Launches compete for spots on a homepage leaderboard, including Product of the Day, according to its launch guide.
Who it suits#
Product Hunt describes its community as a global mix of makers, technophiles, product people, entrepreneurs, investors, creators, early adopters and people who enjoy new ideas. It suits makers who can bring real visitors to a launch and want public comments from a broad tech crowd. If you are still deciding, our piece on whether Product Hunt is worth it weighs the trade-offs.
How to submit#
- Use a personal account. Company accounts are not allowed.
- Log in, click Submit in the top right, then choose New Product.
- Enter your product's URL to start the submission flow.
- Prepare the items listed in the Product Hunt Launch Guide checklist.
- Pick a time. Product Hunt suggests 12:01 am Pacific Time for makers who are planning ahead.
You do not need a hunter. Product Hunt encourages makers to hunt their own products and says there is no clear advantage to using someone else. Our Product Hunt launch guide covers preparation in more detail.
Cost, link type and review time#
- Cost: Free. The launch guide says it is 100% free to use.
- Link type: ugc. On a sampled listing, the product website link carries rel=ugc. This is the value recorded for that one sample, and other listings may differ.
- Review time: Not confirmed. The launch guide does not give one.
The catch#
You may share your launch link however you like, but you cannot ask people directly to upvote it. Product Hunt says to ask them to visit and comment instead. A launch that depends on a big push for votes is working against the rules, so the result rests on whether people actually care.
ZeroRaised lists products from makers with no institutional VC or accelerator equity. If that describes you, submit your product to ZeroRaised.
