Lovable vs Bolt for Solo Founders: Which to Ship With (2026)
Lovable and Bolt both start paid plans at $25 a month and both turn prompts into full-stack web apps with a built-in database, hosting and GitHub sync. Lovable bills in credits per message and leans into managed payments and a guided backend. Bolt bills in tokens, starts Pro at 10M tokens a month and lets you edit code for free when you run out. Pick Lovable if you want the most guided path to a paid SaaS, Bolt if you expect to read and touch the code yourself.

Key takeaways
- Lovable Pro starts at $25/mo for 100 monthly credits plus 5 build credits a day; Bolt Pro starts at $25/mo with 10M tokens a month and no per-day token cap.
- Both free plans are real but tight: Lovable gives 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month, Bolt gives 1M tokens a month with a 300K per-day limit.
- Custom domains are paid on both. Lovable's free plan also blocks editing and downloading code inside Lovable, though GitHub sync works on every plan.
- Lovable offers built-in payments (Stripe or Paddle provisioned for you) on paid plans; Bolt sets up Stripe through Supabase edge functions with your own keys.
- Neither tool makes your app secure or production ready by itself. Budget time to review auth, data access rules and payments before you charge anyone.

Verdict: Pick Lovable if you are a non-technical founder who wants the most guided path from prompt to a paid SaaS, with a managed backend and built-in payments. Pick Bolt if you are comfortable reading code, want a large token allowance for $25 a month, and like being able to fix things by hand in Code view without spending tokens. Both start paid plans at $25 a month, so the choice is about workflow, not price.
Prices and limits come from each vendor's own pages, checked 7 Nov 2026. Advice is ours and marked as such.
TL;DR#
- Same entry price. Lovable Pro starts at $25/mo for 100 credits (Lovable plans). Bolt Pro is $25/mo and "Start at 10M tokens per month" (Bolt pricing).
- Different meters. Lovable charges credits per message, from 0.50 for a small tweak upward. Bolt charges tokens for "the work it does on your project".
- Both have a backend. Lovable Cloud is on by default; Bolt includes unlimited databases and hosting. Both can use your own Supabase instead.
- Both sync to GitHub. Lovable's sync is two-way on all plans. Bolt commits every working change and pulls outside changes every 30 seconds.
- Payments differ. Lovable can provision Stripe or Paddle for you on paid plans. Bolt wires up Stripe with your own keys through Supabase edge functions.

What each one actually produces#
Both turn a plain-English prompt into a running web app with a front end, database, sign-in and public URL, as real source code you can sync to GitHub.
Lovable is built around a chat with two modes. Plan mode costs 1 credit per message and is for thinking through changes. Build mode charges by the complexity of the work done. Lovable's own examples: "Make the button gray" costs 0.50 credits, "Remove the footer" 0.90 and "Add authentication" 1.20 (Lovable credits and usage). Long Build runs pause at 20 credits by default and ask before continuing, which is a useful brake when you are paying per message.
Bolt is closer to a browser IDE with an agent attached. You prompt, and it edits files in a visible project. When you hit a token limit, Bolt's help page says "you can still make direct edits to your project's existing code for free in Code view, which doesn't use tokens" (Bolt tokens).
Our read: Lovable hides more of the machinery; Bolt shows you the files. Pick based on whether looking at code makes you faster or slower.
Pricing: credits vs tokens#
Lovable#
The free plan gives 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, plus a monthly grant of 20 Cloud credits (Lovable pricing FAQ). It includes private projects and Git sync, but not custom domains, badge removal, or editing and downloading code inside Lovable.
Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits, or $250 a year. The per-day grant of 5 build credits continues on Pro without the 30-a-month cap. Tiers scale from there: 200 credits for $50, 400 for $100, 800 for $200, up to 10,000 credits (Lovable plans). Business starts at $50 for 100 credits and adds SSO and other team controls; Lovable's FAQ says credits are "priced higher on business plans", so a solo founder rarely needs it.
Unused monthly credits roll over while subscribed and expire two months after issue.
Bolt#
The free plan is "Free forever, no card required" with 1M tokens a month and a 300K per-day limit. Free tokens do not roll over (Bolt pricing).
Pro is $25 a month, removes the per-day cap, starts at 10M tokens a month, adds custom domains, private site sharing and a 100MB file upload limit. Bolt says you can "Save up to 28% with yearly billing." On paid plans, unused tokens stay valid for two months from the start of the billing cycle in which you got them, and are used first in, first out. Reload tokens you buy do not expire, but Bolt says reloads are only available on "the highest individual monthly Pro plan or to any annual Pro plan" (Bolt tokens).
Teams is $30 per member per month. Bolt's FAQ notes "Tokens aren't shared between members."
One catch: if you cancel Bolt, "you lose access to all allocated tokens (including rollover tokens) when the billing cycle ends."
Cost at light vs heavy use#
These are illustrative examples, not measurements. Your real cost depends on how big your prompts and project are.
Light use (evenings and weekends, one small app). On Lovable Pro, $25 buys 100 monthly credits plus up to about 150 build credits from the 5-a-day grant over a 30-day month. If an average build message cost 1.20 credits (Lovable's own "Add authentication" example), that is roughly 200 messages a month. Bolt Pro's 10M tokens cannot be converted into messages honestly, because Bolt publishes no tokens-per-prompt figure. For light use, both entry plans are likely enough.
Heavy use (shipping hard for a month before launch). Say you send 600 build messages averaging 1.20 credits on Lovable: about 720 credits. Minus around 150 from the per-day grant leaves about 570, which puts you on the 800-credit tier at $200, with the rest rolling over. On Bolt, heavy users move up to higher Pro tiers or buy reloads; check the tier slider on the pricing page with your own usage history, since we could not verify token counts for each tier.
Our read: on Lovable, batching requests and planning before building saves money. On Bolt, fixing small things by hand in Code view is the cheapest habit.
Backend, hosting and domains#
Lovable Cloud is the built-in backend and is "enabled by default". It meters database, storage, network, compute and realtime use, drawing first from the 20-credit monthly Cloud grant and then from your general credits. Lovable's FAQ warns that "Apps that reach significant visitor traffic and/or size may start incurring cost on top of the included grant," and its docs say apps on the built-in backend pause when credits run out. If you prefer, you can connect your own Supabase project on any plan; Supabase then bills you directly (Lovable Supabase docs). There is no automatic migration between the two, so decide early.
Bolt includes unlimited databases on every plan. Unpublished, low-usage projects can auto-pause after six days, but published sites do not (Bolt database). Free hosting has a hard cap of 10 GB bandwidth and 333,333 requests a month, and sites that hit it "stay offline until usage resets". Pro raises that to 30 GB and 1 million requests with pay-as-you-go up to a spending cap. Supabase as a database is available on Pro and Teams, and Bolt says there is no supported way to migrate an existing Bolt database to Supabase.
Custom domains are a paid feature on both. On Bolt you connect a domain only to a published site, and sites on a custom domain are public (Bolt domains).
Our read: plan for a launch spike. On Bolt Free it can take your site offline for the rest of the month; on Lovable it eats building credits. Upgrade or set alerts before you launch.
GitHub sync and code ownership#
Lovable's GitHub sync is two-way and available on all plans. Connecting "creates a new GitHub repository and starts two-way sync automatically"; you cannot connect an existing repo, and only one branch syncs at a time (Lovable GitHub docs). Lovable's pricing FAQ answers "Who owns the projects and code?" with "You do," subject to third-party rights in the underlying AI models.
Bolt connects through a GitHub App on an individual GitHub account. "Every time you make a change that doesn't break the project, Bolt creates a commit for you," and it checks GitHub every 30 seconds for outside changes. Merging branches happens in GitHub, not in Bolt (Bolt Git docs).
Our read: connect GitHub on day one. It is your backup and your bridge to a coding agent later. Our Claude Code vs Cursor guide covers what to use once you outgrow the app builder.
Where each breaks for a paid SaaS#
Payments. Lovable's Stripe docs say "Most projects should use built-in payments instead," where Lovable provisions a Stripe or Paddle account; that "Requires a paid plan." You can also bring your own Stripe key, which does not need a paid Lovable plan. Subscriptions are matched to users by email and webhooks are off by default, which is worth knowing before you build a cancellation flow (Lovable Stripe docs). Bolt's Stripe setup needs authentication in place, uses your Stripe keys and generates Supabase edge functions for checkout, webhooks and subscriptions, and Bolt says it "automatically handles webhook endpoint registration and signature verification" (Bolt Stripe docs).
Auth and data rules. Both add sign-in on request, but neither guarantees every table only returns rows the signed-in user should see, and that gap never shows in a demo. Work through our vibe-coded app security checklist before you take a single payment.
Lock-in. Neither tool migrates its built-in database to Supabase for you. If you think you will leave, start on Supabase from the beginning (any plan on Lovable, Pro or Teams on Bolt).
Alternatives: Replit and v0#
Replit is a browser IDE with an agent. Core is $20 a month, or $18 a month billed annually, and includes "$20 towards more powerful models". Pro is $100 a month ($90 billed annually) with database rollback up to 28 days (Replit pricing).
v0 from Vercel is strongest on front end and UI, deploys to Vercel and syncs with GitHub. The free plan has a "7 message/day limit", paid plans include "$30 of included monthly credits per user", and Business is $100 per user per month (v0 pricing). Our read: v0 is a good pick if you already host on Vercel and mostly need screens, less so if you want a backend handled for you.
Which one to pick, by founder type#
This is our editorial advice, based on the published prices and features above.
| You are... | Our pick |
|---|---|
| Non-technical, want a paid SaaS with the least setup | Lovable Pro, with built-in payments |
| Technical enough to read code, want lots of iterations for $25 | Bolt Pro |
| Testing an idea for $0 | Either free plan; Bolt's 1M tokens goes further for tinkering, Lovable for a quick guided prototype |
| Expect a big launch spike on a free plan | Upgrade first; Bolt Free goes offline at its cap |
| Want to own the backend from day one | Either, connected to your own Supabase |
| Mostly need UI on Vercel | v0 |
| Want a full IDE plus agent in the browser | Replit Core |
| Already outgrowing the builder | Sync to GitHub and move to Claude Code or Cursor |
After the build, the steps are the same with either tool: domain, privacy policy, error monitoring, analytics and a launch plan. Our guide on how to launch a vibe-coded app walks through them in order.
Frequently asked questions#
Is Lovable or Bolt cheaper for a solo founder?#
At the entry level they cost the same: Lovable Pro and Bolt Pro both start at $25 a month. Lovable includes 100 monthly credits plus 5 build credits a day, and higher tiers go to 200 credits for $50 and 400 for $100. Bolt Pro starts at 10M tokens a month with rollover for up to two months. Because one bills per message and the other per token, the cheaper tool depends on how you work, not the sticker price.
Can I export my code from Lovable and Bolt?#
Yes. Lovable has two-way GitHub sync on all plans and creates a new private repository for you; editing and downloading code inside Lovable needs a paid plan. Bolt connects to GitHub through its GitHub App, commits each working change and pulls outside changes back in every 30 seconds. Lovable's pricing FAQ says you own the code you build.
Which is better for building a paid SaaS with Stripe?#
Our read: Lovable is the smoother path for a non-technical founder, because its built-in payments provision a Stripe or Paddle account for you on paid plans. Bolt's Stripe integration creates Supabase edge functions for checkout, webhooks and subscriptions using your own Stripe keys, which suits someone comfortable checking that code. Either way, test the full checkout, cancel and refund flow yourself.
Do Lovable and Bolt include a database and hosting?#
Yes. Lovable Cloud is the built-in backend, enabled by default, and draws on a monthly grant of 20 Cloud credits before your general credits. Bolt includes unlimited databases and hosting on every plan, with free hosting capped at 10 GB bandwidth and 333,333 requests a month and Pro at 30 GB and 1 million requests. Both also let you use your own Supabase project, Bolt on Pro and Teams only.
Should I use Lovable or Bolt, or a coding agent like Claude Code?#
Use Lovable or Bolt when you want a working app in a browser tab and do not want to manage a local dev setup. Move to a coding agent such as Claude Code or Cursor once the codebase is synced to GitHub and you need fine control, tests, or changes the app builder keeps getting wrong. Many founders start in an app builder and finish in a coding agent.
