Cal.com vs Calendly for Indie Makers: Which Scheduler to Use in 2026
For most indie makers, Cal.com Free is the better starting point: it gives one user unlimited booking links, unlimited calendars and Stripe or PayPal payments for $0. Calendly Free is enough only if you need a single event type, and Calendly Standard at $10 per seat per month is worth it if you want Calendly's polished experience and already work inside its ecosystem.

Key takeaways
- Cal.com Free gives one user unlimited links and unlimited calendars; Calendly Free allows one event type and one calendar connection.
- Cal.com Free lists Stripe and PayPal payments; on Calendly, payments arrive with Standard at $10 per seat per month, billed yearly.
- Calendly Standard is worth $10 when you want unlimited event types, reminders and HubSpot or Mailchimp in a tool your buyers already recognise.
- For a small team, Calendly Teams is $16 per seat per month and Cal.com Teams is $12 per user per month, with both offering round-robin scheduling.
- Cal.com's free plan lists an import from Calendly, so trying it does not mean rebuilding your event types from scratch.

For most indie makers, Cal.com Free is the better scheduler to start with. It gives one user unlimited booking links, unlimited calendars and Stripe or PayPal payments for $0, while Calendly Free stops at one event type and one calendar connection. Choose Calendly instead if one event type really is enough, or pay for Calendly Standard ($10 per seat per month, billed yearly) if you want its polished experience and already work in its ecosystem.
This comparison covers only what a solo or very small team needs to decide. Every price and feature below comes from the two vendors' pricing pages, checked on 6 Nov 2026. The recommendations are ours.
TL;DR#
- Free plans differ most. Cal.com Free covers 1 user with unlimited links and calendars (Cal.com). Calendly Free covers one event type and one calendar connection (Calendly).
- Payments. Cal.com Free lists Stripe and PayPal payments. Calendly lists Stripe and PayPal payments on Standard.
- Calendly Standard costs $10 per seat per month, billed yearly, and unlocks unlimited event types, multiple calendars, automations and reminders, and HubSpot and Mailchimp.
- Teams. Calendly Teams is $16 per seat per month. Cal.com Teams is $12 per user per month, and Cal.com says yearly billing saves 25%.
- Switching is easy. Cal.com's free plan lists an import from Calendly.

The short verdict for solo and indie founders#
If you are a single founder doing customer interviews, demos, onboarding calls or paid consulting, start on Cal.com Free. You will probably want more than one kind of meeting within a week: a 15-minute intro, a 30-minute demo, maybe a paid hour. Cal.com gives you all of those at $0, and you can connect every calendar you actually use.
Pick Calendly Free only if one event type covers your needs, for example a single "book a call" link on your pricing page. It does that job well, and you can upgrade later.
Pick Calendly Standard if you value Calendly's familiar booking flow, already rely on its HubSpot or Mailchimp integrations, or have teammates and customers who already use it. At $10 per seat per month, billed yearly, it is a small cost once calls are bringing in revenue.
None of this changes how many people book. Neither vendor publishes booking conversion figures on these pages, and we have no data to claim one tool converts better than the other. What books calls is a clear reason to talk and a link in the right place.
Pricing side by side#
Prices below are from each vendor's pricing page on 6 Nov 2026. Calendly shows prices billed yearly. Cal.com shows a per-user monthly price and states that yearly billing saves 25%, so compare on the billing period you will actually use.
| Calendly | Cal.com | |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | $0: one event type, one calendar connection, one-on-one scheduling, customizable booking page, browser extension | $0 forever: 1 user, unlimited links, unlimited calendars, email and SMS notifications, 100+ integrations, mobile app, browser extension |
| Payments on free | Not listed (Stripe and PayPal arrive with Standard) | Stripe and PayPal listed |
| CRM on free | Not listed (HubSpot and Mailchimp arrive with Standard) | Salesforce and HubSpot sync listed |
| First paid tier | Standard, $10/seat/month: unlimited event types, multiple calendars, automations and reminders, HubSpot and Mailchimp, Stripe and PayPal payments | Teams, $12/user/month (save 25% yearly): team scheduling, round-robin, managed and collective events, recurring events, custom notifications and workflows, remove branding, routing forms, booking analytics, custom APIs |
| Team tier | Teams, $16/seat/month: round-robin, lead routing, Marketo, Pardot and Salesforce | Teams, as above |
| Next tier up | Enterprise from $15k/year, 50 seats minimum | Organizations, $28/user/month (save 25% yearly): SAML SSO and SCIM, SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001 and more. Enterprise on custom pricing |
| Who needs a seat | Users who connect calendars or host; invitees do not | Priced per user |
| Import from the other tool | Not listed | Import from Calendly listed on Free |
Two things stand out for a solo founder. First, the gap between the free plans is wider than the gap between the paid ones. Second, Cal.com has no paid tier aimed at a single person, because its free plan already covers most of what Calendly Standard sells.
Free plan differences that matter#
Event types and links#
This is the biggest practical difference. Calendly Free gives you one event type (Calendly). Cal.com Free gives you unlimited links (Cal.com).
A typical indie maker's week can need several:
- A short intro call for inbound leads
- A longer demo for prospects who are close to buying
- An onboarding call for new customers
- A customer interview slot for research
- A paid consulting or setup session
On Calendly Free you pick one and route everything through it. On Cal.com Free you can give each its own link, length and questions, which makes the calls easier to prepare for and easier to measure. If you are working through your first 10 paying customers, separate links for interviews and demos make it obvious which conversations are turning into revenue.
Calendars#
Calendly Free allows one calendar connection. Cal.com Free lists unlimited calendars. If you run a side project alongside a day job or a client, this matters more than it sounds. With one calendar connected, the scheduler cannot see the meeting on your other calendar and may offer a slot you are not free for.
Notifications, integrations and apps#
Cal.com Free lists email and SMS notifications, 100+ integrations, a mobile app and a browser extension. Calendly Free lists a customizable booking page and a browser extension. Calendly's automations and reminders are on Standard.
Cal.com Free also lists Salesforce and HubSpot sync. On Calendly, HubSpot and Mailchimp are Standard features, and Salesforce appears on Teams. If you log every sales conversation in a CRM, as our founder-led sales guide recommends, this is a real cost difference at the start.
What Cal.com Free does not include#
Cal.com Free is for one user. Team scheduling, round-robin, routing forms, booking analytics and removing Cal.com branding are listed on its paid Teams plan. If you care about a fully unbranded booking page, budget for Teams.
Taking payments for bookings#
If you sell paid calls, such as consulting, audits, setup sessions or office hours, the scheduler can collect payment before the booking is confirmed.
- Cal.com: the Free plan lists "accept payments via Stripe & PayPal" (Cal.com).
- Calendly: Stripe and PayPal payments are listed on Standard at $10 per seat per month, billed yearly (Calendly).
So a founder who wants to charge for calls from day one can do it on Cal.com without a subscription. On Calendly, the first paid booking effectively costs you a Standard seat. In both cases Stripe or PayPal charges its own processing fees, which are separate from the scheduler's price.
Paid bookings are also a useful early revenue line. Charging for a setup call or a strategy hour is one of the simplest ways to earn while the product is young, and it filters out people who were never going to buy.
When Calendly Standard is worth $10#
Calendly Standard is not overpriced. It is a reasonable price for a tool many buyers already recognise. It is worth paying for when:
- You already depend on Calendly. Your links are in onboarding emails, docs and old outreach, and your workflow is built around it. Switching has a cost, even if Cal.com can import your setup.
- You need Standard's integrations. Standard lists HubSpot, Mailchimp, automations and reminders, and Stripe and PayPal payments. If those are the pieces you would wire up anyway, $10 per seat per month, billed yearly, gets them in one place.
- Calls make you money. If one booked demo or paid session covers the subscription, the price is not the question. Pick the tool you will maintain without friction.
- You prefer its experience. Some founders simply find one product easier to configure and trust. That is a legitimate reason when the cost is $10 a month.
It is not worth paying for if your main reason is "I need a second event type". Cal.com Free already gives you unlimited links.
Teams pricing: hiring your first helper#
If you add a co-founder, contractor or support person who also takes calls, both tools charge per person.
- Calendly Standard: $10 per seat per month, billed yearly. Seats are required for users who connect calendars or host meetings. Invitees do not need a seat.
- Calendly Teams: $16 per seat per month, billed yearly, adding round-robin, lead routing and Marketo, Pardot and Salesforce.
- Cal.com Teams: $12 per user per month, and Cal.com says yearly billing saves 25%. It adds team scheduling, round-robin, managed and collective events, recurring events, custom workflows, routing forms, booking analytics, branding removal and custom APIs.
For a small team that wants round-robin or routing, Cal.com Teams is cheaper on list price than Calendly Teams. A two-person team that only needs separate calendars and payments may be fine on Calendly Standard. Both vendors also sell tiers well above what an indie team needs: Calendly Enterprise starts at $15k per year with a 50-seat minimum, and Cal.com Organizations is $28 per user per month with SSO and compliance features.
Migrating from Calendly to Cal.com#
Cal.com's Free plan lists import from Calendly (Cal.com), which lowers the cost of trying it. A sensible switch looks like this:
- Create a Cal.com account and run the Calendly import.
- Reconnect every calendar you check for availability, not only your main one.
- Recreate anything the import misses. Check durations, buffers, booking questions and payment settings on each event.
- Book a test meeting on each link from a different email address, including a paid one if you charge.
- Replace old links on your website, pricing page, email signature, onboarding emails, docs and social profiles.
- Keep the old account for a few weeks so anyone with an old link can still book, then close it once bookings stop arriving there.
Step 5 is where switches go wrong. Old booking links tend to live in more places than you remember.
Decision checklist#
Answer these in order. The first one that clearly applies decides it.
- I need only one event type and one calendar. Calendly Free is enough.
- I need several kinds of meetings, or more than one calendar, at $0. Cal.com Free.
- I want to charge for calls without paying for a scheduler. Cal.com Free.
- I already run on Calendly and want HubSpot, Mailchimp, reminders or payments. Calendly Standard at $10 per seat per month.
- I need round-robin or routing for a small team. Compare Cal.com Teams ($12 per user) with Calendly Teams ($16 per seat) on the same billing period.
- I need a fully unbranded booking page. Budget for Cal.com Teams, which lists branding removal.
- I need SSO or compliance features. Look at Cal.com Organizations or Calendly Enterprise, which is usually beyond an indie budget.
